Parliamentary Inquiry Into Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Churches and Other Non Government Organisations

With a deadline of 30th April 2013the Parliament's six member Family and Community Development Committee will struggle to complete the inquiry into the handling of sexual abuse allegation by churches and non government organisations. With a generally accepted statistic of 1 in 3 females and 1 in 6 males sexually abused by the age of 15 the dimensions of this issue are clearly beyond a Committee that has two other concurrent inquiries. Victims deserve a better hearing than this.
This issue has been in the public domain for at least 20 years and certainly, following the revelations about the Oakleigh Parish and others, know by church hierarchies and the Government to need addressing.
