Good Behaviour Bond For Father Who Raped Daughter

The average sentence in Victoria for rape in recent times is 4.11 months.  This seems light for some offences.  However, compared to the sentence handed down in New South Wales for a father who pleaded guilty to repeatedly raping his now 19 year old daughter between the ages of 9 and 14 years of age, the Victorian average seems reasonable.
It is unacceptable to give good  behaviour bonds or suspended sentences for sex crimes.  It is important that victims feel they can get justice from the judicial system.  Reporting rates are low.  They will get even lower if women, and some men, who make the decision to report childhood sexual assault are treated with contempt by the handing down of lenient sentences or good behaviour bonds.
