It is gratifying that organisations that have been resistant to acknowledging victims stories have apologised this week.  Yeshivah College and the Catholic Church bureaucracy have both apologised to victims.  The next step for both organisations and others in Victoria is to put in place independent arrangements to assist victims with disclosures. Without any intention of silencing victims large organisations do this especially if the offender is powerful or high up in the hierarchy.
In a report about the Australian Defence Force and sexual abuse and sexual harrasment Sex Discrimination Commission Elizabeth Broderick called for a dedicated Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Office to co-ordinate quick responses and victim support suggesting that another organisation needs victims reports removing from the existing hierarchy.
