Australian Sign Language (Auslan)
The Victorian Government has guaranteed funding for the State's only sign language course. It has provided for at least 700 enrolments. SECASA has experienced the shortage of Auslan practitioners for a number of years. It is important for the deaf community that there are adequate numbers of Auslan trained people. People with hearing problems experience sexual assault at a higher rate that the hearing community. Being able to access an interpreter for emergency presentations and counselling is essential to their wellbeing.
