Law Reform Committee Inquiry Into Sexting Report May 2013

On 29th May 2013, the Law Reform Committee of the Victorian Parliament tabled its report on the Inquiry into Sexting.  The report contains 14 recommendations.
It recognises that some sexting between young people should not be treated as child pornography and recommends that new defences to child pornography offences be introduced to Victorian legislation. There are three recommendations related to the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development providing education in relation to internet and communication technologies. The report also recommends a review of people on the Sex Offenders Register for sexting and suggests that Magistrates should have discretion as to whether people be referred to the Register for sexting offences.
